Convert Ventless Fireplace To Vented

The house is 1 finish on the floor and a couple of countertops short of being moved into so basically construction is completed.

The vent free fireplace can be used upstairs. The air mixer venturi needs to be below the burn area where it can always receive fresh air and not in the burn area. There is no way to legally safely change convert the unvented firebox. Hi my parents are almost completed building their home and have had 2 ventless fireplaces installed.

This is a ventless propane fireplace and if you look at the elbows in the first picture they drilled holes to get air into the burner. The flames that emit from the gas burner are intended to burn unobstructed. Is there any way to convert either of these vent free to a vented or are there any other cost effective solutions available to them other than replacing either. I have also read on these forums that ventless fireplaces are not all that safe.

We have recently purchased a home that came with a ventless propane fireplace. Every time we turn it on it smells terrible. If you have a universal unvented firebox with unvented logs where the firebox and logs are a la carte you could re use the logs in a wood burning vented fireplace. Of course the proper operation and placement of the logs if logs are present is assumed.

The pictures below are of a self install almost gone bad. If so what would have to be done and what would the ap. At least you don t really convert an unvented fireplace. A vented gas log set provides an attractive flame appearance while a ventless gas log set prioritizes heat in order to produce more warmth for your home.

You can replace it. Vented logs require your fireplace damper to always be open a certain amount so if you purchase them make sure to use a set of glass doors to help prevent heat loss.
